Where can I find out how EU residential sector energy consumption levels have changed since 2000? (August 2016)

EU trendsThe Joint Research Centre for the European Commission published a report on 5 August 2016 containing analysis on residential gas and electricity consumption trends for the EU-28, as well as information on district heating and the energy efficiency of household products.

The information is covered in Chapter 4. For example, on page 43 the authors state that “during the period 2000-2014, the final residential energy consumption in the EU-
28 has dropped by -9.5%, from 291 Mtoe to 263 Mtoe [Million Tonnes of Oil Equivalent].”

Where can I find government survey results about how people’s attitudes to energy are changing? (July 2016)

AttsThe Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) produces a quarterly energy and climate change Public Attitudes Tracker report. It presents findings from face-to-face interviews with around 2,000 households on energy-related questions, including on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

In the latest report (Wave 18), 2,114 households were interviewed and “just under a quarter claimed to give a lot of thought to saving energy at home (23%), whilst half claimed to give it a fair amount of thought (47%).”
